The Hopeful Heroines (Xanthe Alexis on vocals/guitar and Harriet L on violin/vocals) sang songs about love, the simple joys of staring at the stars, killing birds (well not really…”It’s a metaphor” Xanthe exclaimed), and, as Xanthe so wonderfully put it, “doing someone then sending them away.” Xanthe’s solo vocal is a formidable thing; going from a plaintive whisper to a roar in the blink of an eye. But my heart belongs to their harmonies. They are a wonder to behold, as they spin and swirl about…simply a hypnotic experience.
